Wooden carvings: How pieces of art arise from fragrant pine.

Overall in our house you will smell the pleasant resinous smell of fragrant pine. Your eye falls on the chests, boxes, house blessing, reliefs, mirror etc. carved by our grandfather  The objects were carpentered and carved according to an old handicrafts tradition.

The surfaces of the wood were decorated with notch- cuttings (three, curved and straight cut) as well as bas-relief type motifs like flowers, leaves, animals or rosettes. The carvings are consistently left untreated and only seldom stained. Beam or ceiling motifs were partially taken from earlier epochs such as from the gothic or the baroque eras and can therefore also be found in diverse folk art museums.

Many pieces of furniture have been made as faithful reproductions of an original (with hand-made pins) and carved, including the Oberinntaler or the Nonsberger chest. This decoration in wood, which can bring joy to our senses and our soul, contains an exciting contrast between effigy and invention, between reality and fantasy. It allows us to enter into a world which appears to have been long forgotten today.
